The recession has hit. You've cut back on eating out and started mowing your own lawn. You bike to the grocery store to save gas. You put up with generic brands of cereal and mayonnaise. Where else can you economize? How about printing your own greeting cards?
It is an especially good money saver to print thank you cards. Ordinarily you have to buy them in packets. There used to be fifteen or twenty to a pack; now you're lucky to get eight or ten. After an occasion such as a wedding or a milestone birthday or anniversary printing your own instead of buying three or four packets seems like a pretty good idea.
But home-printed greeting cards are iffy. You can never quite get the fold straight, so it looks crooked and doesn't fit in the envelope. If you take it out of the printer too quickly, the ink can smear. And you're not fooling anybody with that thin, anemic paper. Why bother?
At one time all of this was true. But now, there are so many kinds of specialty papers that when you print thank you cards, no one can tell them from store-bought. There is heavy paper in numerous color and patterns. There is card stock, sometimes with built-in crease lines so that you can't get it crooked and envelopes to match.
Find an Internet or computer program template, fill it in and you're in business. Just hit print and you've got classy, economical thank you cards.
